CYCLING THE SOOKE HILLS WILDERNESS TRAIL

A mountain biking adventure in the Sooke Wilderness Park, in Victoria, BC, Canada

Today’s adventure was a bit of cross country mountain biking as a family. We started out on the Sooke Hills Wilderness trail, but at about 2 kms in, we came to a portion where the trail was closed due to a landslide, so we headed back to the van and came up with a different route—which I will detail in a separate post.

Despite our “closed trail” mishap, this was an AMAZING trail to bike on. The hills were steep, and we had to push our bikes up a good portion of them, but that meant that there were some BRILLIANT downhill sections. And both were doable for our twins.

The Sooke Hills Wilderness Trail is part of the Great Trail (formerly the Trans Canada Trail), and it travels, as the name would suggest, through the Sooke Hills, taking you up over the Malahat to join the Cowichan Valley Trail. We entered the trail at Mount Wells Regional Park and headed north.

This portion of trail winds through old-growth rain forest that is just teaming with life. And as I rode along, I couldn’t help but start imagining story ideas involving this trail. Perhaps and extended day bike tour, where they stay at a B&B each night…

Mount Wells Regional Park is featured in an upcoming novel. It hasn’t been named yet, but it is book 3 in the West Coast Romance Series, and is the story of the romance between Claire Evans and Spencer White. Incidentally, Spencer is Ginny (from Book 2, Ginny’s Crush) big brother.

While my butt and my bike seat don’t exactly get along, this was an amazing way to get the creative juices flowing. Stay tuned for the rest of this biking adventure.

Keep wandering,
